Workshop «Training and maintenance of an advanced spectral radiological computer system (SPARCS)»

From January 17 to 19 in Almaty, on the premises of the Nuclear Safety Training Center (NSTC) RSE «Institute of Nuclear Physics», the Office of Policy and Cooperation in the field of Nuclear Incidents of the National Nuclear Safety Administration of the US Department of Energy held a workshop «Training and maintenance of an advanced spectral radiological computer system (SPARCS)», which was attended by the Head of the Radiological Research Department of the IRSE NNC RK V.V. Bozhko.

During the workshop, both the arrangement of the SPARCS system and how to maintain it were introduced to in searching areas for sources of ionizing radiation (SIR) involving system configuration, operability testing, system calibration and familiarization with possible causes of system failure.

During the hands-on training, the territory was surveyed using the SPARKS systems installed (mounted) on the car. The procedures used by specialists in the USA in such surveys were also addressed.
