Sharing experiences

February 15 through 22, 2024, employees of branch “Institute of Radiation Safety and Ecology” V.V. Bozhko, S.P. Levchenko, and A.V. Toporova took part in the workshop to share experience in predicting public and biota radiation exposure in the vicinity of nuclear power facilities and in contaminated areas. Training was held at the FSBI “All-Russian Scientific Research Institute of Radiology and Agroecology of the National Research Center “Kurchatov Institute” in Obninsk (Russia). As part of the study, CROM and JRodos applications designed for calculating concentrations of radionuclides in various environments and their effect on a human body during the operation of NPP were discussed. The CROM includes environmental transfer models of radionuclides produced during NPP emissions. These models are stated in the IAEA Safety Report Series No. 19 (SRS-19). JRodos is a system to support managerial decision-making in the event of emergency emissions of radioactive substances into the environment, which makes it possible to assess the transfer and deposition of radionuclides.

Such workshops are relevant nowadays because it is important to be aware of technologies and be able to apply them in one’s work. New knowledge and skills will help improve one’s proficiency at work.
