X Republican scientific-practical conference «Medical, biological and ecological problems in uranium mining regions»

On April 18 and 19, 2024 г. X Republican scientific-practical conference «Medical, biological and ecological problems in uranium mining regions» involving participants from abroad, dedicated to the 20^th anniversary of the Scientific Research Institute of Radiobiology and Radiation Protection under the non-profit JSC «Medical University Astana» in Astana c. was held. The conference was attended by scientists and specialists from different countries of the world such as Kazakhstan, Russia, Japan, Thailand, and Uzbekistan. On behalf of the branch ‘Institute of Radiation Safety and Ecology’ of RSE NNC RK, a head of the Radioecological and Biodosimetric Research Department Andrei V. Panitskiy participated in the section ‘Radioecological and Epidemiological Research in the zone of chronic exposure to ionizing radiation’. The presentation covered research findings of the radioecological health of hoofed animals inhabiting the Semipalatinsk Test Site. As a whole, as part of the conference, research findings of the radioecological situation around settlements located close to operating and mothballed uranium facilities, data on the assessment of radiation exposure of the uranium mining personnel and the public, on the assessment of low doses of ionizing radiation affecting bioobjects, data from radiological and epidemiological examinations of the atomic industry personnel and the public living in regions exposed to radiation accidents were presented. The latest achievements in the development of the analytical laboratory equipment were also presented.
