IAEA regional training course ‘Tritium analysis and application to hydrogeological research’

June 29 through July 3, 2026, a regional training course ‘Tritium analysis and application to hydrogeological research’ is being hosted by the HUN-REN Institute of Nuclear Research in the Debrecen c., Hungary, arranged by the IAEA under Project RER7017 – ‘Provision of the availability of water resources under changing climate conditions’. The educational event is attended by Ms Anastasiya Nadeyeva, an engineer of the experimental and ecological laboratory of the Department for the Monitoring, Ecological and Analytical Research of the branch office ‘Institute of Radiation Safety and Ecology’ of the RSE ‘NNC RK’. The syllabus covers theoretical and practical aspects of isotope hydrology, dating techniques for ground waters and present-day approaches to tritium analysis.

As the event was progressing, Anastasiya provided data on the isotopic composition of precipitation, as well as surface and ground waters in the eastern region of the Republic of Kazakhstan. The expertise gained from the training course will allow for extending the scope of tritium as a tracer when studying hydrogeological processes and researching into water bodies.
