On April 10 and 11, 2026, the Kazakhstani branch office of the Lomonosov Moscow State University held XXI International Scientific Conference of students, graduate students and young scientists ‘Lomonosov – 2026’, which coincides with the 25th anniversary of the Kazakhstani branch office of the MSU and was held within the scope of the International Youth Scientific Forum of the Moscow State University.
As part of the breakout session ‘Geoecological problems of the regional and urban development in the Republic of Kazakhstan’, 2 young scientists from the RSE NNC RK presented the findings of their scientific research. Ms A.R. Yermukhanbetova presented a paper on the subject ‘Assessment of fish’s bioindication properties regarding radioactive contamination of water bodies’, which addressed approaches to use ichthyofauna as an indicator of aquatic ecosystem health. Mr. S.D. Smirnov delivered a presentation ‘Bioaccumultion of heavy metals and radionuclides in trophic chains of small rivers in the East Kazakhstan (the Irtysh riv. basin) in impact zones of mining facilities’, which was dedicated to the evaluation of the migration and transfer of contaminants to the biota.
The participation in the conference allowed for the presentation of research findings to a broad scientific audience, experience sharing with fellow workers as well as the establishment of new occupational contacts. The knowledge gained and scientific ties established are planned to be used in further research activities.
