The contest conference was attended by 5 young scientists in the applied research focus area on behalf of the ‘Institute of Radiation Safety and Ecology’: – Rinata Yermakova (subject ‘Research into the vertical distribution of man-made radionuclides in bottom sediments of water streams at the ‘Degelen’ site); – Olesya Marchenko (subject ‘The try-out of a procedure for the determination of tritium in environmental compartments by means of an oxygen combustion vessel 1121 (Bomb parr)’); – Togzhan Toktaganov (subject ‘The assessment of sources of how water bodies at the Araltobe hollow are formed’); – Kuralai Mustafina (subject ‘The development of a procedure for the determination of gross alpha- and beta- activities in water samples by liquid scintillation spectrometry’); – Diana Biyakhmetova (subject ‘Experimentally plotted ‘dose-response’ calibration relationship by EPR dosimetry of human teeth enamel’). Following the contest results, Diana Biyakhmetova, a specialist of the biodosimetric research laboratory, the Department of Comprehensive Ecosystem Research, was second in the ХХI Research and Development contest conference for young scientists and specialists of NNC RK. Young scientists of the branch were also awarded money prizes in the nominations of the best paper design (O. Marchenko), the most enthusiastic contestant (T. Toktaganov) and the best speaker (R.
