A training was held in the Republic of Kyrgyzstan to assess the environmental impact of the environment

At August 19-23 International Atomic Energy Agency (the IAEA) held the regional training course on assessment of radioecological impact of environment resulting from use of radioactively-contaminated objects of uranium legacy.   The training was arranged at the territory of the Republic of Kyrgyzstan within the frame of «Support for creating workforce capacity for development and implementation of comprehensive programs for recultivation of the territories suffered from uranium mining» technical programme The training was dedicated to theoretical bases of reclamation and restoration measures, as well as effective management of post-recultivation monitoring of radioactively contaminated territories in Central Asia. The training course was held in format of lectures and practical exercises . There issues and proposals in the area of international regulation and policy of population and environmental protection against harmful impact of ionizing radiation were discussed. Also global experience in managing uranium legacy facilities was considered. Moreover, the participants have visited Kadzhi Say uranium tailings dump, where they got acknowledged  with the technical aspects of recultivation works. The training was attended by employees of different institutional subdivisions, scientific-research institutes and state enterprises of Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Kazakhstan. The National Nuclear Center of the Republic of Kazakhstan was represented on the training course by Yuri Yevgenievich Artamonov, the technician of the Department for Radiation Studies and Restoration of Ecosystems of the branch  «Institute of Radiation Safety and Ecology».
