The staff member of the National Nuclear Center RK attended the workshop ‘Research into climatic changes using nuclear and isotopic techniques’

October 7 through 10, 2019 Oxana Laykhova, the staff member of the Institute of Radiation Safety and Ecology, National Nuclear Center RK (IRSE NNC RK) attended the workshop ‘Research into climatic changes using nuclear and isotopic techniques’ which was held in Kyoto city, Japan as part of the Forum of Nuclear Cooperation in Asia (FNCA) under the auspices of the Association of Nuclear Safety Research (Japan). This event was funded by the Australian Nuclear Science and Technology Organization (ANSTO). The workshop was aimed at sharing experience and discussing scientific results obtained as part of the study of various climatic changes and effects made on the ecological situation worldwide. The workshop program included general issues concerning sings of climatic changes, definition of the main indicators that warn against degradation of the ecological situation in the world as well as introduction to the main nuclear and isotopic techniques for studying the main indicators of climatic changes. The workshop was attended by representatives from Japan, Australia, Thailand, Vietnam, the Philippines, Mongolia, Malaysia, Kazakhstan, Indonesia and Bangladesh. All of the participants delivered presentations on their experiences in applying nuclear and isotopic techniques in researching into climatic changes in countries. The outcome of the workshop was discussion of presentations in the course of the round table discussion. All of the participants noted the importance of cooperation between countries by means of sharing information and experience as well as findings. Upon completion of the workshop, a general work plan was developed  for 2019-2020. This workshop served as an excellent opportunity to discuss issues of future NNC RK cooperation with FNCA member-countries with a prospect to develop a new line in research into climatic changes.
