Between September 17 and 21, 2018 there was IX International Russian Conference “RADIOCHEMISTRY-2918” held in St. Petersburg city, Russia, which was arranged by the Russian Academy of Sciences in cooperation with the “Rosatom” State Corporation and JSC “V.G. Khlopin Radium Institute”. The Russian scientific conference on radiochemistry is a conventional event held every three years by leading Russian science and technology centers. The 2018 event assembled more than 300 participants from Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Lithuania, USA and Japan. The conference program included 10 plenary, 14 opening breakup groups presenting key reports and about 120 oral presentations. Upon invitation of event organizers employees of the branch, Almira Aidarkhanova and Irina Zvereva took part in the conference where they presented oral reports on the following subjects: “Migration of man-made radionuclides in the former “Degelen” testing area of Semipalatinsk Test Site” (in the line of “Behaviour of radionuclides in the environment”) and “Improvement of radiochemical analysis technqiues used for transuranic elements in samples from Semipalatinsk Test Site” (in the line of “Radioanalytical chemistry”). The conference enabled scientists to familiarize with the latest achievements in fundamental radiochemistry, radiochemical technologies, methods to separate radionuclide, share experience in the field of radioactive waste management. There were also tours organized for conference participants and guests to the underground low-background radiometric laboratory and the museum of V.G. Khlopin Radium Institute.
