International workshop conference «Radioecological consequences of radiation accidents: to the 35th anniversary of the accident at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant»

From April, 22nd to April 23rd, the International workshop conference «Radioecological consequences of radiation accidents: to the 35th anniversary of the accident at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant» took place. The event was housed by the FSBSI «All-Russian Research Institute of Radiology and Agroecology» (Obninsk, Russia). The conference was held for the purpose of analysis and generalization of radiological consequences of major radiation accidents and nuclear tests for natural and agricultural ecosystems, development of strategies for remediation of contaminated territories and return of these territories to normal life, as well as improvement of emergency response systems. Scientists from different countries (Belarus, Kazakhstan, Russia) took part in the conference. Results of researches in the following areas were reported at the conference: – Radioecological consequences of radiation accidents and nuclear tests. – Radioecological monitoring and assessment of exposure dose rates for the people, living at radioactively-contaminated territories; – Overcoming the consequences of radiation and nuclear accidents and nuclear tests. Lessons of Chernobyl; – Methods of researches, modeling and information technologies in radioecology. The conference was held face-to face allowing for on-line participation. National Nuclear Center of RK was represented by A.M. Kabdyrakova (Head of the Department for Budget Projects and Staff Training of the RSE «NNC RK») and A.Ye. Kunduzbayeva (Head of the Laboratory of the DCRE of the branch «IRSE» of the RSE «NNC RK») who took part in the conference in person. The employees of our institute presented two oral reports at the conference:
  • «Distribution of 137Cs, 90Sr, 241Am and 239+240Pu radionuclides among aggregate fractions of soil as a factor of assessment of radioecologial situation at Semipalatinsk Test Site» (A.M. Kabdyrakova);
  • «Speciations of artificial radionuclides in soils of steppe landscapes of the Republic of Kazakhstan» (A.Ye. Kunduzbayeva).
Also from the branch «IRSE» of the RSE «NNC RK» presentations «Absorption of tritium in crystalline-bound form by the plants» by Ye.N. Polivkina (Head of the group, DCRE), «Identification of factors, determining intensity of 137Cs and 90Sr migration in «soil-plant» system, using soil samples of Semipalatinsk Test Site» by T.S. Ponomareva (Specialist, DCRE) and «Artificial radionuclides in litter at the territory adjacent to Semipalatinsk Test Site» by Ye. S. Sysoyeva (Specialist-Ecologist, DCRE) were delivered on-line.
