FNCA seminar

From October 15 to 17, 2024, an open FNCA seminar on the project “Evaluating the Carbon Emission from Forest Soils (ECEFS)” was held, in which a chief of the Radioecological Biochemical Research laboratory, Radiochemical and Biodosimetric Research Department Ye.Polivkina, took an active part as the project leader from the Republic of Kazakhstan. Country reports from 9 Asian countries (Japan, Philippines, Vietnam, Kazakhstan, Indonesia, Malaysia, Bangladesh, Thailand, China) were presented at the seminar. The seminar participants were presented with a lecture by Dr. Lianaga on the problems of carbon emissions from soils in Japan and some countries of Southeast Asia. As part of the technical tour, the seminar participants visited an experimental forest site near Hiroshima city, where carbon emission studies are being conducted.

The seminar participants noted that the study of soil carbon flux in the context of global climate change is of particular importance for the countries of the Asian region. For Kazakhstan, participation in this project is especially important, since the dry climate in most of the area of the republic can significantly increase carbon emissions. Cooperation in this area is extremely important for us, as there are many uncertainties in quantifying carbon emissions from Kazakhstan’s soils.
