Attending IAEA’s courses

September 25 through October 5, 2018 IAEA hosted a regional course on environmental remediation technology in Obninsk city based on Rosatom Technical Academy, Russian Federation: Regional Training Course 5 on Remediation Technologies: Landform stabilization. This course was organized under the IAEA Technical Cooperation Project “Support of labour forces development for designing and implementing comprehensive programs on remediation in territories affected by uranium mining”.
Upon invitation of organizers, employees of the Institute of Radiation Safety and Ecology NNC RK, Andrey Panitsky and Vladimir Kashirsky took part in the event mentioned. The training course provided for highly informative practical studies during which there were remediation projects developed for territories involving conceptual models of areas requiring remediation activities, analysis of concerned parties, analysis of risks and elimination as well as many other things. There were discussions held with colleagues from Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Kirgizia and Russia on the subject of remediation in territories contaminated with radionuclides. Information acquired during the regional course was useful in the light of the work planned on remediation of STS individual areas and for expert evaluation of remediation projects on tailing dumps in the Republic of Kazakhstan.
