In Semey took place the traditional “Peace Action”

On the 29th of August  traditional «Action for Peace» event, dedicated to closure of Semipalatinsk Test Site took place in Semey. 70 years ago on this day the first nuclear explosion was made at the Semipalatinsk Test Site. The action which has been regularly arranged at «Beibitshilik» island, was this time dedicated to the 30th anniversary of «Nevada-Semey» antinuclear movement. Representatives of the movement layed flowers to the «Stronger than death» monument  and held a moment of silence in the honor of the victims of nuclear tests. The secretary of «Hiroshima- Semey» community Chieko Kabataki, addressed the visitors. She reminded that anti-nuclear movement, that further covered the whole world originates from Kazakhstan. The event was residents of Semey city and nearby inhabited localities as well as people from both CIS and non-CIS countries.   Akimat of Semey city have arranged a showground, where the National Nuclear Center of the Republic of Kazakhstan took part. The employees of the Bureau for scientific and technical information of the Institute of Radiation Safety and Ecology of the RSE NNC RK have prepared information stands dedicate to the history of Semipalatinsk Test Site, present radioecological state of the STS, and also a model of  the «Experimental Field» site, where the first surface test was conducted in the USSR. Booklets, books and brochures were gifted to the interested visitors of the exhibition.
