National Nuclear Center discussed issues of projects implementation

On November 8, 2018 as part of projects implementation according to the IAEA technical cooperation program, the National Nuclear Center RK was visited by an IAEA Technical Cooperation Department representative, Katherina Deufrains. The main objective of the visit were issues concerning implementation of national projects under IAEA TC whereby the work in the National Nuclear Center is currently in progress. That is the project “Development of the reactor facility information and measurement system” being implemented by the Institute of Atomic Energy, RSE NNC RK and 2 projects called “Creation of a production area in Kazakhstan to make standard samples for the radionuclide and ultimate analysis” and “Scientific and technical support of work on the transfer of the former Semipalatinsk Test Site land (STS land) to economic use” that are being implemented by the Institute of Radiation Safety and Ecology, RSE NNC RK. The visit was focused on issues of equipment supply and advisory services rendered by IAEA’s experts on projects subject matters. In the course of the official visit, there was a meeting with the branch IRSE management during which they familiarized themselves with direct executive officers and managers, discussed issues of projects implementation and coordination. Besides business points, excursions were arranged for the guest of honour to the STS museum and laboratories of the Institute of Radiation Safety and Ecology. As previously agreed, late in September of 2018 one of the IAEA’s experts, Joanne Brown, visited Kurchatov city in order to conduct a workshop for staff members of the Institute of Radiation Safety and Ecology on research quality control under the project of scientific and technical support of efforts on the “Transfer of the former Semipalatinsk Test Site lands to economic use”.
