Conference on Environmental Radioactivity

Between May 29 and June 2, 2017 the International ENVIRA 2017 Conference on Environmental Radioactivity was held in Vilnius city, Lithuania, which was organized by the Center of Physical Sciences and Technologies. New scientific knowledge on applications of natural and anthropogenic radionuclides and isotopes was presented at the conference in researching into terrestrial (atmosphere, hydrosphere, biosphere etc.) and marine (sea water, biota, bottom sediments etc.) environment. The conference program also included the latest technological advances in detection methods for low levels of radioactivity including low- and high-energy mass-spectrometry techniques, methods of in situ measurement, system of continuous monitoring and other analytical developments. Radioecology subjects on environmental protection against radiation effect were also addressed including consequences of Chernobyl and “Fukushima-1” NPP accident and remediation techniques for contaminated areas. Upon invitation of organizers Alua Kabdyrakova, Vitaly Romanenko, Denis Turchenko and Almira Aidarkhanova participated in proceedings of the conference representing the branch “Institute of Radiation Safety and Ecology” RSE NNC RK. Our staff scientists made 4 oral and 14 poster presentations on research and activities carried out by the Institute.
