30th anniversary of “Nevada-Semey” antinuclear movement

On February 28, the 30th anniversary of “Nevada-Semey” antinuclear movement was observed. To commemorate this historical event, the Memorial Day “30 zhyl unsizdik. 30 years of calm” took place in the regional children and youth library. At this event a lot was said about the main reason why this movement began, i.e. about the Semipalatinsk Test Site. Guests of honour at the meeting represented by the head of Training and Information Center of the Institute of Radiation Safety and Ecology, NNC RK, Kurchatov city, Yury Strilchuk and lecturer of D. Serikbayev East-Kazakhstan State Technical University, Almira Bukunova, Ph.D. in Medicine, presented their detailed reports “Semipalatinsk Test Site. Past. Present. Future” and “Test Site and Mankind”. The participants were actively asking their questions in the course of presentations. Much of what was heard clarified the scope of tragedy to better understand it. Theatrical performances, thematic poetry made the attendees think of consequences of nuclear tests
